As Regards DPR’s Summons, Jokowi: Let’s Use Common Sense in Performing Governmental Duties

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gave again his response to the polemics concerning the summons from the House of Representatives (DPR) to the ministers of the Working Cabinet.

Via his facebook fan page Ir. H. Joko Widodo, on Monday evening (24/11) President Jokowi instructed all the ministers of the Working Cabinet to keep working and, for the time being, decline the summons from the House of Representatives (DPR).

“The ministers of the Working Cabinet have been working for just one month. Therefore, they haven’t achieved anything which anyone should debate,” Jokowi wrote on his facebook fan page.

According to President Jokowi, the House of Representatives (DPR) could issue the summons only if it has settled its internal affairs and if the ministers have served their terms long enough so that it is deemed appropriate to assess and evaluate their performance.

“In performing our governmental duties, we must also use our common sense,” President Jokowi asserted.

President Jokowi expected that the House of Representatives (DPR) manages to settle its internal affairs soon, so that the government executive will not face any confusion in their political communication with the House of Representatives (DPR).

Avoid Misjudgment

Previously, when meeting journalists amid the coordinating meeting with all the governors of Indonesia in Bogor Palace on Monday (24/11), President Jokowi said that the reason he forbids his ministers to respond to DPR’s summons is due to DPR’s internal conflict.

“If we come to DPR to respond to its summons, people will think that we’re making a mistake. Therefore, let DPR settle its internal affairs first, then let’s proceed,” President Jokowi stated.

President Jokowi also called attention to the fact that his ministers have been working for just one month, so that it is deemed inappropriate that they are already supposed to meet the members of the House of Representatives (DPR).

“They have been working for just one month. Therefore, what is the justifiable reason for summonsing them?” Jokowi asked. However, President Jokowi allows his ministers to respond to DPR’s summons if DPR has settled its internal conflict completely. (ES)
