The Indonesian Government has decided that Mayor of Batam serves ex-officio as chairman of the Batam Authority, according to Public Relations Division of Coordinating Ministry for the Economy in a press release, Thursday (13/12).

The press release also states that the Government made the decision to solve leadership issues in Batam and the Batam Authority.

“The Government does not dissolve the Batam Authority, and the position of the Batam Authority Chairman will be held by Mayor of Batam,” the press release states, adding that the management of Batam’s Free Port and Free Trade Area (KPBPB) is still carried out by the Batam Authority.

The press release further states that the Government is currently working on regulation to stipulate the concurrent position of Chairman of the Batam Authority and Mayor of Batam.

In the meantime, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution on Wednesday told journalists that the leadership issues in Batam would be immediately solved. “Mayor of Batam, as the Government representative, will hold the position of Chairman of the Batam Authority,” Darmin said after the Limited Cabinet Meeting at the President’s Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (12/12).
