Online Transportation is Future Job, President Jokowi Says

Online transportation through ride-hailing application is the new mode of transportation, while becoming the driver (of online transportation) is a new promising job in the future, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

“Online transportation driver is a noble job that can provide income for the family. It also provides flexible working hours for the drivers,” President Jokowi said during National Gathering with the Online Transportation Driver at Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran, Saturday (12/1).

On that occasion, the President also said he was proud to meet online taxi drivers and ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers, the figures who dare to leave the comfort zone and break the tradition. “I am proud because you are someone who dares to get out of your comfort zone and old traditions,” he said.

“So it irrigates me when some people look down on online ojek drivers. This is a noble job that generates income to bring welfare for our families,” the President added.

On that occasion, the drivers said they are able to earn as much as Rp4 million per month on average. The amount, President Jokowi said, is considered to be a substantial amount of income for living expenses in major cities in Indonesia. (RAH/EN)
