President Jokowi Inaugurates Revamped GBK Main Stadium

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, on Sunday (14/1) afternoon, inaugurates the revamped Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium at Senayan, Jakarta. Prior to the inauguration, the President see the scale model of the development of the Stadium. Afterwards, together with Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, as well as Chairman of Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Edy Rahmayadi head to the location of inauguration.<>

“By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim and with the blessing of God the Almighty, I inaugurate the revamped Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium,”the President says and then he signs an inscription to mark the inauguration of the Stadium.

After the inauguration, the President, Vice President, as well as Ministers head to royal box to watch a friendly football match between the National Team of Indonesia and Iceland.The President praises the ‘new face’ of the Stadium. “It’s very good. Iceland’s coach also said that the Stadium is very big and very good,” the President tells the journalists.

On that match, the Iceland Team beats Indonesia 4-1. This match is a warming-up to study the strengths and weaknesses of the Indonesian Team. “From this match, we will know the areas that need to be improved so that we can compete in other matches, particularly the Asian Games,” the President says.

It is also important for the Indonesian Team, both the junior and senior teams, to regularlyparticipate in many different types of competitions and train hard in order to improve their achievement.  (DNS/EN)(MMB/YM/Naster).
