Departed for Paris, President Jokowi Attending the COP21 Forum

President Jokowi talked with Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, before heading to Paris from Jakarta, Sunday (29/11)

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, on Sunday (29/11) morning, using aircraft-1 of the Presidential Indonesia Halim airport in Jakarta, heading to Paris, France, to attend the High-Level Conference on Climate Change or Forum COP 21.

Before his departure, President Jokowi said taht his presence along with 135 other heads of state and government in Paris is to give encouragement to the process of climate change negotiations, so that it can achieve a new agreement binding and long-term in addressing of climate change.

According to the President Jokowi, the main message to be conveyed is Indonesia’s full support for the success of COP21, as well as moral support in France amid acts of terrorism which struck France recently.

In the forum, the President Jokowi want to convey Indonesia’s contribution to climate change issues, especially in encouraging the full realization of the principle of common but differentiated responsibility. It is important that developing countries can contribute more in climate change issues.

President Jokowi also will encourage funding support technology cooperation and capacity building in curbing climate change. “The President wants to convey Indonesia’s commitment to the fore in the reduction of emissions to reduce carbon emissions by 29% in 2030 and 41% by international cooperation,” wrote Ari Dwipayana in a press release.

COP21 at the Forum, the President Jokowi will deliver concrete steps Indonesia in the prevention of forest fires and land, particularly the improvement of peat land management. “Later we will convey concretely what we do, including the restoration of peat, review the old license and a moratorium with a certain period of time,” the President said.

The President also planned to visit the Indonesian Pavilion, which is in the arena of the COP 21 meeting, with the theme “Solutions to Climate Change”. . (ES)/Sy.
