President Prabowo Subianto called for the importance of unity and cooperation among Muslim countries in his remarks at the special session of the 11th<\/sup>\u00a0Developing Eight (D-8) Summit at the Presidential Palace of the New Administrative Capital, Cairo, Egypt.<\/p>\n

The President highlighted the weak solidarity among Muslim countries on several issues, such as peace and humanity.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must see the reality of this situation. We always express our support for Palestine and Syria, but what kind of support?\u201d said the President on Thursday (12\/19).<\/p>\n

He stated that in several meetings, a number of countries issued declaration of support and sent humanitarian aid to other countries. However, according to him, these actions were not followed by concrete steps to create change.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen our brothers and sisters are in difficulty, we give declaration of support and send humanitarian aid. However, in my opinion, we should look at the reality. We must work, unite our voices, and not be divided,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, President Prabowo Subianto also criticized the divide et impera<\/i><\/em>\u00a0(divide and rule) tactic that continues to weaken solidarity among Muslim countries. He cited conflicts in several Muslim countries as a real example of internal conflicts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen will this end? How can we help the Palestinians if we quarrel among ourselves? Let’s be honest to our people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The President expressed views that the international community does not respect the voices of Muslim countries. In fact, according to him, human rights issues often do not apply to Muslims.<\/p>\n

\u201cHuman rights are not for Muslim people. This is the reality. This is very sad. Let us do what we can, but let us face reality and let us be honest with ourselves,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, President Prabowo Subianto reiterated the call for unity, close cooperation, and awareness towards the global situation Muslims are facing. He also reaffirmed Indonesia\u2019s unwavering commitment to doing its utmost in strengthening cooperation among Muslim countries.<\/p>\n
