\"kredensial\"<\/a>President Joko \u0093Jokowi\u0094 Widodo, on Thursday (12\/1) at the Merdeka Palace, received Letters of Credentials from eight Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (LBPP) to mark the start of their official duties in Indonesia. <\/p>\n

The eight Ambassadors are as follows:<\/p>\n

  1. Jean-Charles Berthonnet, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Republic of Indonesia;<\/li>\n
  2. Benabdellah Ouad\u00eea, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kindgom of Morocco to the Republic of Indonesia;<\/li>\n
  3. Rui Fernando Sucena Do Carmo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Portuguese Republic to the Republic of Indonesia;<\/li>\n
  4. Joseph R. Donovan Jr., Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to the Republic of Indonesia;<\/li>\n
  5. Mayor General Azmal Kabir, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People\u0092s Republic of Bangladesh to the Republic of Indonesia;<\/li>\n
  6. Issop Patel, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Mauritius to the Republic of Indonesia, residing in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia);<\/li>\n
  7. Guillaume Kavaruganda, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Rwanda to the Republic of Indonesia, residing in Singapore; and<\/li>\n
  8. Tom D. Kijiner, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Marshall Islands to the Republic of Indonesia, residing in Tokyo (Japan).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Speaking after the ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, who accompanied the President, said that the Ambassadors consider that Indonesia plays a very important role for the region and the world.<\/p>\n

    Retno added that some of them specifically expressed high appreciation for Indonesia\u0092s role in ASEAN and in humanitarian issue, including the issue of Rakhine State in Myanmar.<\/p>\n

    The Ambassadors also expressed their appreciation to Indonesia\u0092s economic growth that is relatively higher than the average global economic growth and they hope to boost economic cooperation with Indonesia. \u0093For example, Bangladesh specifically expressed its strong wishes to boost economic cooperation with Indonesia because Bangladesh has a population of almost 170 million. Last year, Indonesia exported 50 train coaches and this year, we are aiming to increase our train coaches to the country,\u0094 the Minister said, adding that Bangladesh also needs coal in a big amount to support its industries.<\/p>\n

    With France, Retno said that both sides talked about collaboration between the two countries in the context of Palestine conflicts.\u00a0 She added that Indonesia supports France\u0092s initiative to hold the International Peace Conference. \u0093I myself attended the Conference in June last year and on the 15th<\/sup> of January, there will be the second meeting but I cannot attend the meeting so Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs will attend the meeting. So, Indonesia and France and other countries can support the International Peace Conference<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>in the Palestine-Israel context,\u0094 the Minister said.<\/p>\n

    With Morocco, Retno said both countries discussed cooperation to counter terrorism and cooperation to promote moderate forms of Islam.<\/p>\n

    With Portugal, Retno said that relations between the two countries are quite positive.\u00a0 She added that Portugal hopes to promote cooperation with Indonesia in the economic sector because they have survived the economic crisis so potentials to promote economic cooperation are bigger because their economic has improved.<\/p>\n

    With the United States, Retno said that President Jokowi said he had phoned US President-elect Donald Trump and both leaders also talked about US commitment to continue comprehensive cooperation with Indonesia. \u0093Specifically, Ambassador Donovan also appreciated Indonesia\u0092s role both in ASEAN and in the world,\u0094 Retno said.<\/p>\n

    With Mauritius, both countries talked about the issue of IORA (Indian Ocean Rim Association) because Mauritius is the current head of the IORA Secretariat and Mauritius really supports the IORA Summit to be chaired by Indonesia.<\/p>\n

    With Rwanda, both countries talked about trade issue. According to Retno, in 2016, Indonesia\u0092s trade volume with Rwanda rose 16 times.\u00a0 \u0093So this is a big potential that we hope to manage. Its population is relatively small, only 12 million people, but if we see the trend in the trade, it\u0092s very promising,\u0094 Retno said.<\/p>\n

    During the Credential ceremony, one by one, the Ambassador arrived at front yard of the Merdeka Palace and the national anthems of their respective countries performed by a marching band by the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres).<\/p>\n

    Afterwards, the President received Letters of Credentials from those Ambassadors sequentially at the Credential Room at the Merdeka Palace. The meeting was continued with a veranda talk\u00a0at the back of the Merdeka Palace. During the talk, President Jokowi was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi. The meeting ended at 11 am with a joint photo session with the eight Ambassadors with the accompaniment of national anthem Indonesia Raya.<\/p>\n
