(Photo: BPMI)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>President Joko \u0093Jokowi\u0094 Widodo firmly rejected U.S. President Trump&#8217;s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel\u0092s capital during a speech at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Extraordinary Summit in Istanbul, Turkey (13\/12). &#8220;This is unacceptable. Once again, President Trump&#8217;s move is unacceptable and must be strongly criticized,&#8221; President Jokowi firmly said.<\/p>\n<p>To that end, the President invited all OIC member countries to unite and put aside all the differences to defend Palestine. &#8220;The issue of Palestine should bring us back together. We\u00a0unify the voice to defend Palestine,&#8221; the President said.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>President Jokowi said President Trump&#8217;s move not only hurts Muslims, but also hurts the sense of justice of mankind. &#8220;Hope for independence is shunned by this very unjust decision. Such decision diminishes the hope of a lasting peace. Therefore, the decision must be rejected,&#8221; the President said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, according to the President, the unilateral decision is also considered to violate various U.N. Security Council Resolution related to Palestine. Therefore, the President insists the decision be rejected. &#8220;The people of Indonesia, and I&#8217;m sure the OIC people expect a lot from this Summit. They hope that this Summit can produce optimal, actionable results that can impact the future of Palestine,&#8221; the President asserted.<\/p>\n<p>On the occasion, President Jokowi also conveyed six important points of the proposed attitude of OIC member states.<\/p>\n<p>First, the OIC must expressly reject the unilateral recognition. Two-state solution is the only solution with East Jerusalem as the capital city of Palestine.<\/p>\n<p>Second, the President invites all countries that have the Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, not to follow the decision of the United States to move their embassies to Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<p>Third, the OIC can serve as a motor to mobilize supports from countries that have not yet recognized the Palestinian independence, then recognize it immediately.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth, the OIC member countries that have relations with Israel take diplomatic measures, including the possibility of reviewing relations with Israel in accordance with various OIC Resolutions.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth, OIC member countries should take steps together to increase humanitarian aid, capacity building, and economic cooperation to the Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p>Sixth, the President hopes the OIC should be able to become a motor for the movement in various international and multilateral forums to support the Palestinians, including in the U.N. Security Council and the U.N. General Assembly.
