President Joko \u0093Jokowi\u0094 Widodo on Wednesday (3\/1) at the State Palace inaugurated Major General (ret.) Djoko Setiadi \u0096 former Head of the National Encryption Agency (Lemsaneg )\u0096 as Chairman of the newly established the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN).<\/p>\n

The inauguration is based on Presidential Decree Number 130\/P of 2017.<\/p>\n

The BSSN is not a new institution; rather, this non-ministry technical institution is the revitalization of the Lemsaneg, with additional personnel from Directorate of Information Security and Directorate General of Information Application of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics. <\/p>\n

The BSSN was established in 2017 based on Presidential Regulation Number 53 of 2017 signed on 19 May 2017. However, to anticipate the development of the cyber world that has seen a rapid growth, the Government made changes to strengthen the roles and the function of the BSSN. President Jokowi then signed Presidential Regulation Number 133 of 2017 on the amendment to the Presidential Regulation Number 53 of 2017 on National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) on 16 December 2017.<\/p>\n

Before the amendment, the BSSN was a government institution under the coordination of Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs but is now under the authority and responsible to the President.<\/p>\n

The BSSN is tasked to detect and prevent cybercrimes by maintaining cyber security in effective and efficient manners by using, developing, and consolidating all related elements in cyber security. Afterwards, the BSSN is also directed to the development of Indonesia\u0092s cyber environment that is resilient and safe.<\/p>\n

The BSSN is also tasked to become the state\u0092s single operator and fostering institution in ensuring the Government\u0092s classified information, as well as to present the results of the analysis of encrypted information in an effort to maintain national security.<\/p>\n

Following the establishment of the BSSN, the tasks and function in the encryption field and the implementation of all tasks and functions in the information security field, security in the use of telecommunication network based on Internet protocol, as well as network safety and telecommunication infrastructures will be performed by the BSSN.<\/p>\n

Also attending the inauguration ceremony were Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Speaker of the People\u0092s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) Air Chief Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto, Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Board Sri Adiningsih, and Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Willem Rampangilei.
