Prabowo said.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The cyclone that can reach the maximum sustained wind of 40 knots or 75km\/hour near the center is forecasted to move southwest away from Indonesia&#8217;s territory and is estimated to be around 2,754 km from the Indonesian territory in the next 72 hours.<\/p>\n<p>\u0093This cyclone will create indirect impacts, among others increase of wind speed in some parts of the west coast of Sumatra and increase of high waves up to 2.5 &#8211; 4 meters from Mentawai Islands waters to Sunda Strait,\u0094 Mulyono added.<\/p>\n<p>An increase in wind speed, which is caused mostly by air mass that flows from the southern part of Central Indonesia, is also predicted to hit the southern island of Java, including Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Special Region of Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).<\/p>\n<p>The dominance of air masses from the south tends to reduce rainfall in some parts of Sumatra and Java. On the contrary it will increase rain intensity in the central and eastern parts of Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Potential areas of heavy rainfall from 17 to 19 December 2018 are among others:<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Central Kalimantan<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 South Kalimantan<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 East Kalimantan<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 West Sulawesi<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 South Sulawesi<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Southeast Sulawesi<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Central Sulawesi<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 North Sulawesi<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 North Maluku<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Maluku<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 West Papua<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Papua<\/p>\n<p>BMKG to warn the public to prepare for extreme weather impacts in Sumatra, Java, and Kalimantan from 20-23 December 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Cold air flow from Asia is predicted to re-enter Indonesian territory and form a convergence area and trigger an increase in rainfall in the western part of Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Areas that have the potential for heavy rainfall during this period include:<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 West Sumatra<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Bengkulu<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Riau<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Jambi<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 South Sumatra<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Lampung<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Bangka Belitung<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Riau Islands<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Banten<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 West Java<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Special Regional of Yogyakarta<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 East Java<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 West Kalimantan<\/p>\n<p>\u0096 Central Kalimantan<\/p>\n<p>BMKG also warns the public to stay alert about the potential of hydrometeorological hazards, such as flash floods, landslides, and strong winds, particularly on regions that have been hit by heavy rain in a few days.<\/p>\n<p>\u0093Communities in coastal areas of Sumatra Island are also advised to stay alert of the potential high waves and strong wind,\u0094 Mulyono concluded.
