Sumadi answers questions from reporters after inspecting the construction of Patimban Port, in Subang, West Java province, Wednesday (9\/1).(Photo: PR Division of Ministry of Transportation)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The construction of Patimban Port in Subang Regency, West Java province, is still under way according to target and expected to be finished in December this year, Minister of Transportation Budi Sumadi has said.<\/p>\n<p>\u0093Patimban Port is ready to begin operation by the end of 2019,\u0094 the Minister said during the inspection to the construction site of the port, Wednesday (9\/1). <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>According to Budi, Patimban Port is a \u0091prestigious\u0092 project with the cargo capacity of 3.5 million TEUs for Phase I, 5.5 million TEUs in Phase II and will reach 7.5 million TEUs in Phase III.<\/p>\n<p>\u0093This is a giant project with cargo capacity as big as Tanjung Priok port in North Jakarta. Together with Kertajati Airport, Patimban-Kertajati-Cirebon City will be a very strategic area in West Java,\u0094 Budi said, adding that the movement of goods will also be split between Tanjung Priok port and this port.<\/p>\n<p>However, to support mobility the Government will also build roads to connect the port with the existing toll roads, Budi said.<br \/>\nFurthermore, the Minister expressed his appreciation to the West Java Regional Government for its support for the construction of the Patimban Port. He also expressed hope that Patimban Port will help reduce national logistics costs.<\/p>\n<p>\u0093The Government believes that the new port will boost economic growth and can reduce logistics costs,\u0094 he added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil said he fully supports the construction of Patimban Port as the port will bring greater benefits to the economy of his region.<\/p>\n<p>\u0093Patimban Port project is one of 32 national strategic projects set by the central Government. This indicates that West Java, as home to 60 percent national industries, is a very strategic province. Moreover, the Patimban Port is designed to accommodate more cargo because Tanjung Priok Port is nearly overloaded,\u0094 Ridwan added.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor went on say that in the future Patimban area will become the most sophisticated region. \u0093With the presence of Kertajati Airport and Patimban Port connected to Cirebon City, this will be a golden triangle area. It will create jobs for the people and in the end, it will boost local economy,\u0094 he said.
