President Joko \u0093Jokowi\u0094 Widodo has urged the Indonesian Police Chief to conduct a thorough investigation according to the law on Pontianak\u0092s bullying case.<\/p>\n

A 14-year-old girl in Pontianak, West Kalimantan Province, is currently receiving intensive treatment at a local hospital after being attacked by 12 high school students. This case has triggered an international outcry on social media, demanding justice for the victim through an online petition. <\/p>\n

\u0093We are all deeply saddened by the incident,\u0094 President Jokowi said to reporters at Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex, Wednesday (10\/4).
\nAccording to the President, the incident has shown that the social interaction between people has changed a lot since the rising popularity of social media.<\/p>\n

\u0093Please be careful with this changing era and keep watching over our children\u0092s (behavior),\u0094 the President said. Parents, teachers, as well as the community must join hands to respond to the new challenges, he added.<\/p>\n

President Jokowi also underlined the importance of cultural, ethical, religious norms and values as guidance in taking every action. (FID\/EN)<\/p>\n
