Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto stated that Indonesia will become one of the world’s Muslim fashion centers.<\/p>\n

The statement refers to the State Global Islamic Economy report that put Indonesia as the runner up of the world’s best Muslim fashion after the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n

“Towards 2020, we must immediately declare that Indonesia is ready to become the world’s Muslim fashion center in 2020. Ministry of Industry is ready to achieve it,” Airlangga said during the Opening of 2019 Muslim Fashion Festival (Muffest) in Jakarta, Wednesday (1\/5).<\/p>\n

According to the State Global Islamic Economy report, the current world Muslim fashion consumption reaches US$270 billion, which is projected to further increase with a growth rate of 5% so that by 2023 the number will reach US$361 billion. Meanwhile, Indonesia\u0092s Muslim fashion consumption is at US$20 billion with a growth rate of 18.2% per year.<\/p>\n

“Opportunities for global and domestic Muslim fashion markets are still huge. To that end, the domestic Muslim fashion industry must fill it,” the Minister said.<\/p>\n

According to the Minister, the development of world Muslims population has become one of the main triggers that have driven the growth of the Muslim fashion industry. In 2018, the total Muslim population reached 24% of the total world population.<\/p>\n

He also stated that the Muslim fashion industry, which is part of the textiles and textile products (TPT) sector, has a significant contribution to the national economy. In 2018, the national TPT product exports reached US$13.27 billion or grew by 5.4% compared to the previous year (US$12.59 billion).<\/p>\n

“The OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) countries are the biggest Muslim fashion market, with the trade volume amounting to US$191 billion.<\/p>\n

\u0093It shows that we have the potential to boost exports to OIC countries,” Airlangga said, adding that the performance of the TPT industry grew significantly from 3.76% in 2017 to 8.73% in 2018.<\/p>\n

Therefore, Airlangga expressed his appreciation for the organization of the exhibition. The exhibition is a promotional event for various national Muslim fashion products that can also be a key to expanding their \u00a0market globally.<\/p>\n

“This event will bring in potential buyers and create business to business cooperation. Moreover, the presence of young designers from Vocational Schools is in line with President Joko \u0093Jokowi\u0094 Widodo’s priority program regarding the development of human resources, pushing ahead of the creative industry sector, especially fashion as it is a part of Making Indonesia 4.0,” he explained.<\/p>\n

Airlangga went on to say that in this digital age, domestic production has achieved good result. Its fashion, cosmetics, and jewelry products have penetrated foreign markets. He also expressed belief that the industry is the best and most creative in ASEAN.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Indonesia is considered to have great potential in lifestyle-based industry development, including fashion, cosmetics, and jewelry. “These three can achieve more than 3% growth,” he said.<\/p>\n

For the record, the Muslim Fashion Festival (Muffest) is held from 1-4 May 2019 at Assembly Hall, Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). In addition to the Fashion Show, the event will present a retail exhibition or BZC (Business to Customer), B2B (Business to Business), fashion presentations, talk shows, seminars, and fashion design competitions.<\/p>\n

The fashion show session will present a variety of Muslim fashion styles by Indonesian designers, ranging from conventional, contemporary, to syar’<\/em>i<\/em> .<\/em> (Ministry of Industry Public Relations\/ES)<\/strong><\/p>\n
