President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo has confirmed that the capital city will be relocated to Kalimantan Island. However, the exact province that will host the new capital has yet to be announced.<\/p>\n

Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)\/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Bambang Brojonegoro in a Limited Meeting on Tuesday (6\/8), provided a comprehensive explanation of three cities in Kalimantan which are considered to replace Jakarta as the capital city.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe gave an analysis of three cities, in which each city is located in Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan, and explained the advantages as well as disadvantages,\u201d Bambang told reporters after a Limited Meeting, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Tuesday (6\/8).<\/p>\n

Afterwards, the capital relocation team consisting of Bappenas, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial Planning (ATR)\/the National Land Agency (BPN), Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and other related institutions also presented the design of the future capital city along with its financing scheme.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President will announce the exact location among that three cities later,\u201d Bambang said.<\/p>\n

The Minister went on to say that the President in that meeting instructed the team to develop the future capital city based on international standard which will become a model city for other development in Indonesia.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe focuses in designing the new capital city are modernity, sustainability, and convenience,\u201d he said adding that the budget to relocate capital city will be taken from the State Budget (APBN), partnership between the Government and enterprises, as well as private sectors and State-Owned Enterprises partnership.<\/p>\n

For budget taken from the APBN, the Minister added, the Government will establish a cooperation on assets management, particularly for that to be relocated from Jakarta to the new capital city. Thus, the relocation process will not hinder other national development process which had been included in the APBN.<\/p>\n

According to the Minister, a Law regarding the new capital city will be enacted, and an authoritative agency which will manage the city will also be established.<\/p>\n

Bambang added that capital relocation is a multi-year project. In 2020, the Government will work on the legal standing, prepare basic infrastructures and land clearing. Meanwhile, the construction will be started in 2021, so that the first phase of capital relocation can be carried out in 2024.\u00a0(MAY\/FID\/ES)<\/strong><\/p>\n
