(Photo by: Ministry of Transportation PR)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The third Runway of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is set to be in full operation in November this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, the runway has actually been in operation for one month with the operation proceeding smoothly. Nevertheless, the use of the runway was limited to Citilink aircraft with Boeing 737 and Airbus qualifications.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn November, the size of the runway will be 3000\u00d760 meter, enabling all types of airplanes to land and take-off there,\u201d the Minister said during a visit to Jakarta Air Traffic Service Center at the airport to oversee the process of take-off and landing of airplanes on the runway, Sunday (8\/9).<\/p>\n<p>Budi added that once the runway is in full operation, aircraft movement, which is currently 75 aircrafts per hour, can increase into 81 aircrafts per hour, adding that the number will increase into 100 aircrafts per hour once the runway has a length of 3000 meters.<\/p>\n<p>The operation of the runway \u00a0can also save fuel up to Rp75 million, Budi added.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Managing Director of state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II M. Awaluddin explained that from the simulation conducted by airlines in August, combustion of aircraft fuel could be reduced to 1,300 pounds or Rp70-75 million as it takes shorter time for the aircraft to reach the apron upon landing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe results of simulations on August 15 show that the aircrafts could save fuel because there was no need to hold. After landing, routing to the parking area is done faster. Fuel burn can also be minimized by 1300 pounds or Rp70-75 million,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Located in Tangerang in Banten province, Soekarno\u2013Hatta International Airport\u00a0is Indonesia\u2019s largest airport serving Greater Jakarta area.
