In a bid to revoke controversial amendment to Law Number 30 of 2002 on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo has said he is considering to issue a Government Regulation in lieu of Law (Perppu) on the KPK.<\/p>\n

The statement was made by the President after meeting with legal experts as well as a number of national public figures at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (26\/9).<\/p>\n

The Perppu, once issued by President Jokowi, would still need approval from the House of Representatives (DPR) to effectively revoke the newly passed KPK Law, which many have said will weaken the anti-graft body.<\/p>\n

The President has also pledged to follow up inputs from the national figures, particularly from political standpoints.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve received inputs including the issuance of Perppu. We will take these inputs into account and make a calculation immediately,\u201d the President said in a press statement.<\/p>\n

A number of national public figures attending the meeting were among others Islamic cleric Quraish Shihab, former minister Emil Salim, former Constitutional Court chief justice Mahfud MD, Catholic priest Frans Magnis Suseno, senior journalist Goenawan Mohammad, Islamic scholar Azzumardi Azra, daughter of former President Abdurrahman Wahid Alisa Wahid, former minister Hasan Wirayudha, artist Butet Kartarajasa, actress \u00a0Jajang C.
