President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo inspected facilities at Yogyakarta International Airport, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) Province, Friday (31\/1).<\/p>\n

“This is a big project that is completed in a very short period, more or less 20 months. The size of the Airport building alone is 219,000 square meters,” the President told the reporters during the visit.

\nThe President also said that the construction project of the Airport was conducted by Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises (SoEs).<\/p>\n

All airports in Indonesia, the President added, are expected to provide excellent services to boost the traffic.<\/p>\n

President Jokowi went on to say that the capacity of the airport is 20 million passengers per year while the existing passengers are 8.4 million per year, so there is a gap of approximately 11 million passengers.<\/p>\n

“New flights are expected to bring as many tourists as possible to Yogya and its surrounding areas,” the President added.<\/p>\n

The President also said that all flights in Adisucipto Airport are expected to be moved to the new Airport in March, after which the Adisucipto Airport will serve flight for propeller aircraft only.<\/p>\n

For the record, upon arrival at around 14:30 Western Indonesian Time, President Jokowi immediately inspected the facilities at the Yogyakarta International Airport.<\/p>\n

Accompanying the President during the visit were, among others, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Wishnutama, and Governor of Yogyakarta Special Region Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.
