(Photo by: Rahmat\/PR)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Government is committed to accelerating development in eastern Indonesian provinces including in the provinces in Papua, Sulawesi, Maluku and East Nusa Tenggara.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to pay close attention to these regions by accelerating infrastructure development, boosting investment, opening new hubs, developing special economic zones, opening up industrial zones and allocating special autonomy funds for Papua province and West Papua province,\u201d the President said in his introduction at a limited meeting on the Special Autonomy Funds for Papua, Wednesday (11\/3).<\/p>\n<p>The President also called for an evaluation of the distribution system and new policy formulation of special autonomy funds in the future for the welfare of the people of both provinces.<\/p>\n<p>On that occasion, the President noted that instruments used by the Central Government to accelerate development in Papua province and West Papua province are not only by channeling special autonomy funds but also by using various other acceleration instruments sourced from the State Budget.<\/p>\n<p>For the record, the Central Government has since 2002 transferred a substantial amount of special autonomy funds amounting to Rp94.24 trillion for Papua province and West Papua province.<\/p>\n<p>In accordance with the provisions of laws, the President continued, special autonomy funds for both provinces will end in 2021; hence, a new policy regarding this special autonomy fund is required.
