The Government has announced that the national exam will be administered only as a standard evaluation system to map national education quality but will not affect the student’s performance.<\/p>\n

“We appreciate several schools that have conducted the national exam . However, the result of the exam will not be used as the entrance test for state universities, nor for graduation, which is in accordance with the prevailing law,” Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim told reporters on Tuesday (24\/3).<\/p>\n

The Minister went on to say that according the National Education System Law, teachers will carry out evaluations on students, while schools determine students’ graduation.<\/p>\n

“The national education mapping is interrupted due to the covid-19 outbreak, but it gives us more time to prepare and improve the 2021 national competency assessment,” he said.<\/p>\n

According to Nadiem, the national education mapping has changed since “the Freedom to Learn” policy (Merdeka Belajar), adding that that the policy is expected to lead to a new target once the covid-19 pandemic is over.<\/p>\n

Nadiem added that the Government will work with more than ten telecommunications media to provide data assistance for online learning platforms in various educational offices and schools.<\/p>\n

“This is quite challenging since not all regions in the country have online access. However, we are committed to working together to ensure that all schools can implement an online learning system,” Nadiem said.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, Nadiem also pointed out that the online system is an initiative taken by himself and Minister of Communication and Information.<\/p>\n

The use of smartphones is also expected to begin the implementation of an online learning system, he added.<\/p>\n

“We are aware that this is an emergency situation. I understand that the quality of learning conducted online may not be fully maximum and optimal, but teachers, principals, students, and parents, as well as Ministry of Education and Culture should join hands and adapt to the current situation,” Nadiem said.<\/p>\n

To date, Ministry of Education and Culture is still comprehensively studying the entrance test for state universities (SBMPTN).<\/p>\n

“We are also considering the national exam. If the national exam held, it would be held according to the standard of safety and health protocol for covid-19. We will announce the result immediately,” Nadiem added. (FID \/ EN)<\/strong><\/p>\n
