(Photo by: Agung\/PR)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As part of the efforts to achieve 100 percent electrification ratio this year, the Government has set a target of providing electricity in 433 remote villages in four provinces.<\/p>\n<p>To date, the country\u2019s electrification ratio has reached 99.48 percent, a significant increase from 84% in 2014. The country\u2019s electrification ratio has also exceeded the target set in the 2015 &#8211; 2019 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) at 96 percent.<\/p>\n<p>To that end, President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo in a limited meeting through video conference on Friday (3\/4) issued four directives, among others:<\/p>\n<p><em>First<\/em>, to identify 433 remote villages that have not received electricity and to find out the nearest villages with electricity available.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHence, we can determine the right technological approached, whether by extension of the electricity networks or by building mini-grids such as micro-hydro, diesel-fired power plant (PLTD) or through the distribution of electric tubes equipped with electric energy charging stations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Second<\/em>, to prepare the budget, regulations, and investment policies needed to support the program.<\/p>\n<p><em>Third<\/em>, to improve access to electricity, particularly for the underprivileged.<\/p>\n<p><em>Fourth<\/em>, the electricity program for the villages must provide added value to increase productivity, particularly for home industries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that children can study with sufficient lighting in the evening so the quality of our education can also improve,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The President also mentioned that Indonesia\u2019s electricity access population was ranked 95<sup>th<\/sup>, behind that of neighboring Malaysia &#8211; which was ranked 87<sup>th <\/sup>, Vietnam, which was ranked 84<sup>th<\/sup>, and Singapore, Thailand, China, South Korea which were ranked 2<sup>nd<\/sup> respectively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs for electricity supply quality, we are ranked 54<sup>th<\/sup>, (temporarily), the Philippines was ranked 53<sup>rd<\/sup>, Malaysia was ranked 38<sup>th<\/sup>, Thailand was ranked 31<sup>st<\/sup>, China was ranked 18<sup>th<\/sup>, and Singapore was ranked 2<sup>nd<\/sup>,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n<p>For the record, villages that have not received electricity are located in four provinces, including 325 villages in Papua province, 102 villages in West Papua province, five villages in East Nusa Tenggara province, and one village in Maluku province.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe number (of villages with no electricity) is small compared with the total number of villages in the country \u2013 around 75,000 \u2013 but we still have to get this done,\u201d the President said.
