(Photo: Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing).<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Government continues to improve the quality of national roads in the eastern part of South Sumatra province.<\/p>\n<p>The project aims to support smooth distribution of logistics amid the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>National roads in Sumatra Island, especially the Lampung \u2013 South Sumatera &#8211; Jambi route, is a vital route that connects various centers of production and distribution of the people basic needs, including medical equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Most roads in those areas are currently damaged and need urgent preservation and quality improvement to restore the quality of the roads.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Improved road facilities will support smooth logistics, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, a smooth road will also support the people\u2019s economy. For this reason, road maintenance project needs to be carried out immediately while still practicing health protocol to prevent the spread of COVID-19. For example, by monitoring health condition of workers, limiting the number of workers and maintaining physical distancing,&#8221; Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said.<\/p>\n<p>The road preservation project which is carried out on the Eastern South Sumatra Highway is divided into three packages, namely Jambi Border Province Road-Paninggalan, Betung-Palembang Border City Road, and Palembang Border City Road-Indralaya-Meranjat-Kayu Agung Border City Road.<\/p>\n<p>The first package is Jambi Border Province Road-Paninggalan section with a total length of 90.54 kilometers and a total budget of Rp193.1 billion.\u00a0 The progress of the project has already reached 24.2%.<\/p>\n<p>The second package is Betung-Palembang Border City Road with a total length of 56 kilometers and a total budget of Rp124 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the third package is Palembang Border City Road-Indralaya-Meranjat-Kayu Agung Border City Road with a total length of 49.55 kilometers and a total budget of Rp118 billion.
