President Jokowi delivers remarks during a limited meeting on Tuesday (28\/4)<\/p><\/div>\n

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo has called on his Cabinet to design anticipatory measures to fulfill the people\u2019s basic needs.<\/p>\n

During a limited meeting on Tuesday (28\/4), the Head of State raised several points, including:<\/p>\n

First<\/em>, the President has ordered a quick count and a quick assessment of the people\u2019s basic needs in each region and each province and calculation to find out which provinces are in surplus, which provinces are in deficit, as well as the amount of the staple production.<\/p>\n

Everything must be well-calculated, he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have received a report stating that rice stock deficit is reported in 7 provinces, corn stock deficit occurs in 11 provinces, large chili stock deficit is reported in 23 provinces, cayenne pepper stock deficit occurs in 19 provinces, shallot stock deficit is reported in one province, and chicken eggs stock is in deficit in 22 provinces,\u201d President Jokowi said.<\/p>\n

According to the President, stocks for cooking oil are estimated to be sufficient for 34 provinces, while sugar stocks are estimated to be deficit in 30 provinces and garlic stocks are estimated to be deficit in 31 provinces.<\/p>\n

Second<\/em>, President Jokowi has ordered relevant stakeholders to ensure the distribution of staple foods by conducting cross-distribution between regions that experience deficit and those that experience surplus.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor that reason, food distribution between provinces, regions, and islands should not be disrupted,\u201d he said, adding that he will continue following this issue as numerous goods distribution should have been disrupted due to large-scale social restrictions, especially those sent through airplanes.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince it is a hard time for airlines companies to only carry cargo without passengers, the calculation for distribution fee will be more complicated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Third<\/em>, related to rice supply management, the President pointed out that rice management is pivotal to mitigate food crisis that will occur in the next few months as predicted by the FAO.<\/p>\n

For this reason, the President said he has ordered his Cabinet to carefully calculate rice supply in the markets, in the mills, in the warehouses, as well as in the National Logistics Agency (Bulog).<\/p>\n

He also expressed hope that rice production can be increased during the peak of the harvest season to 5.62 million tons.<\/p>\n

The President has also ordered the Bulog to continue buying grains from farmers at reasonable price and incentives.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo anticipate the possibility of a long drought this year. Although the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted that there will be no extreme weather, the Government should remain vigilant, especially against factors that may affect rice supply,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Fourth<\/em>, President Jokowi has also ordered his Ministers to ensure that the farmers can continue producing staple foods to maintain the nation\u2019s food production.<\/p>\n

One of the steps, he said, is by implementing health protocols and economic stimulus programs targeted for those farmers. (FID\/EN<\/strong>)<\/p>\n
