The Government through Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing continues to support waste management service in Indonesia by developing facilities and infrastructures.<\/p>\n

The Ministry carries on the construction of disposal sites for reducing, reusing, and recycling waste (TPS-3R) during COVID-19 pandemic in a bid to reduce unemployment rate in urban areas.<\/p>\n

The construction and management of the TPS-3R that are under Cash Labor Intensive Program are performed by involving the public in order to disseminate information to them about waste management so that the quantity of household waste can be reduced. In addition to that, the TPS-3R project is expected to absorb more workers and maintain people\u2019s purchasing power amidst economic uncertainty due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough this program, we invite the people to change their habits, by not littering, and to implement 3R management to their waste,\u201d Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said.<\/p>\n

In 2020 Budget Year, the program which has a total budget of Rp63.6 billion and 1,590 beneficiaries is carried out in 106 locations in 24 provinces. The construction work of the TPS-3R is performed in 75 days and has a potential to absorb 4,165 workers in total.<\/p>\n

In addition, since the first week of May 2020, the Ministry has been disseminating Sanitation Program and Waste Management Program in TPS-3R at regencies\/cities level and has also established Community Self-help Group (KSM). Dissemination in the City of Ambon and Central Maluku Regency were conducted by strictly following the health protocols such as keeping safe distance and wearing face mask. The construction of TPS-3R is slated to begin in August and predicted to complete in October 2020.<\/p>\n

During 2015-2018 period, the Ministry had constructed waste management sites that bring benefits to 9.8 million people. In 2019, the construction of waste management infrastructures brings direct benefits to 416,680 households. Thus, approximately 10.2 million households in total received waste management service during 2015-2019 period.<\/p>\n

In 2018, the Ministry constructed a TPS-3R at the Bukit Kaba National Police Academy, in Karang Jaya Village, Rejang Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province. The disposal site consisted of waste management site, an office, and facilities including chipper shredder and vehicle to transport the wastes.<\/p>\n

Waste management system in Rejang Lebong has contributed to\u00a0 waste reduction of 360 households in Selupu Rejang Subdistrict and has created a cleaner environment as well as improved health, wellbeing, and comfort of local residents.<\/p>\n

In other locations, organic waste such as tree branch and leaves are recycled and turned into biomass briquettes, while inorganic waste such as plastics are shredded and used as material for plastic asphalt.<\/p>\n

The community can also make compost from waste so that the TPS-3R can create recycled products from waste that have economic value. (Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing\/<\/strong>EN<\/strong>)<\/p>\n
