The construction of Tumbang Samba Bridge connecting Telok Village and Samba Danum Village in Central Kalimantan Province has been completed, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono has announced.<\/p>\n

According to the Minister, the bridge is expected to boost economic activities and improve people’s welfare in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs \u00a0Central Kalimantan is more and more connected, economic growth of the region will improve because the surrounding area consists of plantations such as oil palm plantation and rubber plantation, as well as mining sites. The bridge speed up logistics transportation,\u201d the Minister said.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Head of the XI Banjarmasin National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN) for Director-General of Highways Budi Harimawan Semihardjo said that the construction of the bridge aims to open isolated areas in North Katingan and complete the structure of the national road network from Central Kalimantan to West Kalimantan and vice versa so that it will improve people\u2019s economy in North Katingan.<\/p>\n

The Tumbang Samba Bridge will also improve connectivity to the location of food estate projects or an area designated as a new food barn outside Java Island. The new food barn, which is listed in the 2020-2024 National Strategic Projects (PSN), will be located in Pulang Pisau Regency in Central Kalimantan Province.<\/p>\n

The bridge which stretch across the Katingan River and is crucial to the people of Central Kalimantan in their mobility from the upstream of the regency to Tumbang Samba market and the border of West Kalimantan.<\/p>\n

The construction of Tumbang Samba Bridge began in 2017 and it is the first bridge in the country using a modified network tied-arch bridge.<\/p>\n

The bridge has passed the static and dynamic load test by the Road Bridges and Underpass Safety Commission (KKJTJ) through the bridge-worthiness certificate number BM.05.03-Mn \/ 896 issued by Minister of Public Works and Public Housing on 11 May 2020.<\/p>\n

In addition, the XI Banjarmasin National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN) on Monday (1\/6) also conducted an Open Traffic trial for the bridge.<\/p>\n

Based on the bridge’s main curved structure, the Tumbang Samba Bridge is lighter compared to other bridges. As many as 30 percent of the structure is carried by the hangers, which creates an efficient steel frame structure design and brings economical and high aesthetic values.<\/p>\n

For the record, the Tumbang Samba Bridge has a main structural weight of only around 450 tons, including the bridge’s span of 108 meters, the bridge’s width of 11.8 meters, as well as the bridge’s height of 23.7 meters.<\/p>\n

In terms of size, the bridge is smaller than the Holtekamp Bridge with 2,000 tons weight, span configuration of 112 meters, width of 26 meters, and its height of 20 meters.<\/p>\n

On the production side, the entire production process used domestic products, including steel structures, trial assembly, full span lifting process, as well as domestic workers.<\/p>\n

The bridge construction work was carried out with a multi-year contract wth value of Rp298 billion by state-owned construction firm PT. Wijaya Karya with Supervision Consultant PT. Perentjana Djaja.<\/p>\n

The bridge, with a total length of 843.2 meters, will be the longest in the province and is equipped with connecting bridges and approach roads on both sides.<\/p>\n

The bridge will later be used for vehicle traffic from various regions, so people no longer need to use ferry services to cross the Katingan River to transport their vehicles. (BKP Kementerian PUPR \/ EN)<\/strong><\/p>\n
