The Indonesian Government through Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) encourages faster completion of the construction of Cipanas Dam in West Java Province in order to support national food and water security.<\/p>\n

According to Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, construction progress of the Cipanas Dam has already reached 59.72% and the construction is due for completion by the end of 2022.<\/p>\n

“Based on the construction schedule report, the dam is planned to finish in 2023. However, I ask to speed up the dam\u2019s construction work so that it will complete faster, by 2022,” Basuki said.<\/p>\n

The Cipanas Dam was started to be built in 2017. The dam is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) and it can hold up to 250 million cubic meters of water.<\/p>\n

The Cipanas Dam is expected to irrigate 7,432 hectares of agricultural land in Sumedang Regency and some parts of Indramayu Regency. The dam is also expected to help farmers in the surrounding areas to increase their cropping intensity.<\/p>\n

The Cipanas dam is a rockfill dam that is equipped with a 400-meter long tunnel. The dam’s water supply comes from the Cipanas River, which is part of the Cimanuk-Cisanggarung River Basin Unit.<\/p>\n

The dam also can be used s source of raw water with a capacity of 850 liters per second and it has the potential to be the source ofa Mini-Hydro Power Plant (PLTM).<\/p>\n

The 1,315 hectares dam will also serve as a flood gate for Indramayu Regency and the surrounding areas, considering that the dam can reduce flood discharge by 250 cubic meters per second. In addition, the dam can also serve as a tourist destination.<\/p>\n

The construction of the dam was carried out by state-owned contractor PT Wijaya Karya, construction firm PT Jaya Konstruksi, and state-owned construction firm PT Brantas Abipraya using the state budget of Rp 1.3 trillion. (BKP Ministry of PUPR \/ EN)<\/strong><\/p>\n
