(Photo by: BPMI)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Government has announced it has managed to slow down the spread of COVID-19 for the past six months through a number of measures and policies.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Mitigation Working Committee Wiku Adisasmito cited an example of a zoning system policy that has been in place to determine and control areas.<\/p>\n<p>The zoning system, according to Wiku, refers to a disaster zoning system, in which red zones represent high-risk areas, orange zone represent medium-risk areas, yellow zone represent low-risk areas, and green zone represent unaffected areas or the ones with zero cases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Government has also increased the number of testing laboratories from one to more than 300 laboratories across the country from 12 different ministries and agencies. Likewise, the number of referral hospitals has increased to more than 800 hospitals both at the national level and provincial levels,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the percentage of active cases nationwide tends to decline and as of August, the figure stands at 23.64% from that in March at 91.26%, he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDeath rate also tends to decline after reaching its peak in April, namely from 8.64% to 4.47% in August,\u201d he said, adding that recovery rate nationwide also tends to rise in August reaching 72.17% from only 3.84% in March.<\/p>\n<p>Wiku also said the Government continues to push for production of personal protective equipment and other medical devices made at home with 100% locally-produced raw materials that meet international standards of AATCC 42, ISO and ASTM.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOther areas of innovation include production of ventilators made in Indonesia that have been clinically tested, reusable cloth masks with the same filtration capability with that of surgical masks, and development of domestic vaccines through a consortium between the Eijkman and state-owned pharmaceutical company Biofarma, namely the Red and White vaccine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>For the next target, Wiku said, the Government would be focusing on protecting the vulnerable, comorbid sufferers, the elderly, and health workers.<\/p>\n<p>Wiku further said said the Government would also focus on curbing active cases, improving recovery, reducing mortality rate, improving testing, conducting tracing and treatment, conducting vaccinations and increasing reagent supplies, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and personal protective equipment, conducting massive outreach using national human resources, as well as improving the people\u2019s behavior in order to comply with health protocols.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Government is also committed to increasing data interoperability to quickly monitor COVID-19 development,\u201d he said. <strong>(Communication Team of the COVID-19 Mitigation and PEN Committee\/EN)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Translator: Muhardi<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Reviewed by: M.
