The Indonesian National Police has launched a special operation called \u2018Operasi Yustisi\u2019 in capital Jakarta to monitor public discipline in following strict health protocols.<\/p>\n

For the record, the capital re-imposed large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) policy starting Monday (14\/9) to curb the spread of COVID-19 in high risk areas in the city.<\/p>\n

The National Police Head of Public Relations Brig. Gen. Awi Setiyono said that the operation will be carried out in stages, starting from sympathetic and persuasive approach in the form of warning to law enforcement in the form of penalties, social work, and even revocation of business permit.<\/p>\n

\u201cOperasi Yustisi targets areas that have the potential to become new clusters for COVID-19. So the implementation depends on respective regions,\u201d Setiyono said in Jakarta, Monday (14\/9).<\/p>\n

The police, he added, will work with the National Defense Forces (TNI), local governments, related stakeholders, and even communities to impose sanctions.<\/p>\n

The sanction itself will be based on Presidential Instruction Number 6 of 2020 and local regulations. On-site trial facilities are also provided, involving the Attorney General’s Office, Registrar and Judges so the violators can immediately pay a fine or do the social work.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this operation, the police will continue to prioritize sympathetic and persuasive approach, for example, when finding people without masks, the police will give them one,\u201d Setiyono explained.<\/p>\n

Operasi Yustisi first focuses on maintaining public discipline to wear a face mask, to maintain physical distancing, to wash hands, and to avoid crowds.<\/p>\n

This operation will also involve and empower communities related to the Community Policing program, such as communities in markets, malls, terminals, train stations, housing areas, cycling communities, and others.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (KADIN) for Creative Economy Erik Hidayat expressed hope that the Government will be firm in implementing the Operasi Yustisi to significantly boost public awareness, including in areas and business locations such as markets and densely populated settlements.<\/p>\n

According to Erik, business sectors are committed to supporting the Government’s efforts to prioritize health recovery by implementing strict health protocols in their respective business locations as recommended by the Government.<\/p>\n

Erik went on to say that the implementation of health protocols in business locations should be followed by compliance from the business owners and the Government is also expected to impose strict sanctions for those who violate the protocols.<\/p>\n

“We urge the public to comply with health protocols in business locations so that business closure or fines can be avoided,” said Erik.<\/p>\n

Erik also added that the KADIN fully supports the Government\u2019s move to prioritize health recovery.<\/p>\n
