Photo by: PR\/Rahmat.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The enactment of Law Number 8 of 2016 on Persons with Disabilities marked a paradigm shift regarding Persons with Disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Persons with Disabilities no longer seen as an object that needs assistance but as a subject entitled to respect, protection and fulfillment of human rights.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Government is committed to implementing the mandate of Law Number 8 of 2016 on Persons with Disabilities. Articles 18, 19 and 20 stipulate that persons with disabilities have rights to access public facilities, adequate accommodation in terms of public services, and rights of protection against disasters,&#8221; Special Staffer to the President Angkie Yudistia said in his written remarks in the webinar entitled &#8220;Accessibility in Public Services and Transportation in Achieving the Equality of Rights of Persons with Disabilities in accordance with Government Regulation Number 42 of 2020 on Accessibility to Housing and Public Services, and Protection from Disasters for Persons with Disabilities\u201d, on Monday (23\/11).<\/p>\n<p>Besides Government Regulation Number 42 of 2020, Angkie added, the Government has also issued a number of implementing regulations to implement the mandate of Law Number 8 of 2016.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As of today, there are 6 Government Regulations and 2 Presidential Regulations, as implementing regulations of Law Number 8 of 2016, which have been issued by President Joko Widodo as a follow-up and implementation of the mandate of the Law in fulfilling the rights of persons with disabilities,&#8221; Angkie said.<\/p>\n<p>She added that one of the implementing regulations is Presidential Regulation Number 1 of 2020 on Ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty to implement the principle of accessibility of printed works published for persons with partial visual impairments, full visual impairments, or disabilities in reading printed works.<\/p>\n<p>Angkie expressed hope that with the issuance of the Government Regulations and Presidential Regulations, the fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities can be implemented properly on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The roles and synergy of all stakeholders are urgently needed. Ministries\/agencies, provincial and regency\/city apparatus, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, organizations, communities, and other stakeholders should support each other to achieve disability-inclusive development, towards an inclusive and advanced Indonesia,&#8221; she stated.<\/p>\n<p>Angkie further said that disability issue is also seen as a multisectoral issue, not only related to the social sector but also related to other sectors, namely education, health, infrastructure, transportation, labor, justice, and communication, including the right to protection and social services in the context of self-reliance.<strong> (TGH\/UN) (RI\/MMB)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The enactment of Law Number 8 of 2016 on Persons with Disabilities marked a paradigm shift regarding Persons with Disabilities.
