Public information disclosure is pivotal to push for public participation in the process of public policy-making, Vice President Ma\u2019ruf Amin has said.<\/p>\n

According to the Vice President, policy-making carried out in an inclusive manner by involving the community can create a check and balance mechanism so public policy will be well-targeted and relevant to the community.<\/p>\n

“Through public information disclosure, the public is expected to get involved in the process of public policy-making, which starts from the planning, implementation, monitoring, to policy evaluation,” the Vice President said at the 2020 Public Information Disclosure Award held virtually by the Central Information Commission (KIP), Wednesday (25\/11).<\/p>\n

The Vice President went on to say that active community participation can be carried out in a community participation mechanism and formal mechanism, such as development planning deliberation.<\/p>\n

“In community participation mechanism, it can be conducted by utilizing digital technology or non-conventional platform (social media),” he said.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, the Vice President expressed hope that an increase in public participation in the public policy-making process will be followed by an increase in public literacy and knowledge regarding the substance of a public policy, especially future generation who are increasingly dynamic as well as master technology and information.<\/p>\n

“If it is implemented, it will not create misperceptions or rejection in society in the future,” he said.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Vice President added, public information disclosure is an effort to optimize the protection of public’s rights to public information as part of human rights, as stated in Article 28F of the 1945 Constitution.<\/p>\n

“Public Information Disclosure Law (UU KIP) will strengthen the Government’s basis in carrying out the function of public information disclosure,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Vice President further said that public information disclosure can improve the creation of good governance, adding that there are important elements needed, including information disclosure and public service delivery that is transparent, effective, efficient, accountable, and corruption-free.<\/p>\n

For that reason, public agencies must be consistent in improving the implementation of public information disclosure, he added.<\/p>\n

“For public agencies that are still in the qualifications of ‘quite informative’, ‘less informative’, and even ‘not informative’, I urge them to accelerate and improve the implementation of public information disclosure, by consistently applying the values \u200b\u200bof transparency, accountability, innovation, as well as participation in every aspect of information service to the public,” he said.
