Ladies and gentlemen<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In 2021 we will continue to find measures and <\/span><\/span>breakthroughs<\/span><\/span> to <\/span><\/span>narrow down <\/span><\/span>social inequality<\/span><\/span> in order<\/span><\/span> to achieve <\/span><\/span>an <\/span><\/span>equitable development across the country.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I have reiterated the importance of asset redistribution, expanding access to capital, strengthening skills, and cultural changes in overcoming poverty and social inequalities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

One of the breakthrough measures that we need to think about is the development of <\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>haria financial institutions that are managed based on the <\/span><\/span>waqf<\/span><\/span> system. The potential for <\/span><\/span>waqf<\/span><\/span> in Indonesia is very high <\/span><\/span>in terms of<\/span><\/span> fixed asset and <\/span><\/span>current<\/span><\/span> asset, including <\/span><\/span>waqf<\/span><\/span> in the form of cash.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ladies and gentlemen,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The potential for <\/span><\/span>waqf<\/span><\/span> is very high in our country. The potential for <\/span><\/span>waqf<\/span><\/span> assets per year reaches <\/span><\/span>Rp2<\/span><\/span>,000<\/span><\/span> trillion and the potential for cash <\/span><\/span>waqf<\/span><\/span> can exceed <\/span><\/span>Rp188<\/span><\/span> trillion. Therefore, we need to expand the scope of <\/span><\/span>waqf<\/span><\/span>. It should<\/span><\/span> not <\/span><\/span>be<\/span><\/span> limited to religious purposes, but should be developed for socio-economic purposes that have a significant impact on reducing poverty and social inequality in society.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

To that end, the launch<\/span><\/span>ing<\/span><\/span> of the National Cash <\/span><\/span>Waqf<\/span><\/span> Movement today is an important part<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> not only to improve awareness, literacy, and public education on the economy and <\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>haria finance, but also as an effort to strengthen a sense of care and social solidarity to overcome poverty and social inequality in our country.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As <\/span><\/span>home to<\/span><\/span> the largest Muslim population in the world, it is time for <\/span><\/span>Indonesia<\/span><\/span> to provide an example of the practice on managing <\/span><\/span>waqf<\/span><\/span> that is accountable, professional, credible, trustworthy, and has a productive impact on the welfare and economic empowerment of Muslims. And, at the same time, it will be able <\/span><\/span>to have a significant influence on the efforts to drive our national economy, especially in micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Vice President, Ladies and Gentlemen,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sharia economy has <\/span><\/span>an <\/span><\/span>enormous potential to be developed. Sharia economy development is not only carried out by countries with a majority Muslim population, but also<\/span><\/span> by<\/span><\/span> other countries, such as Japan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. We must seize this opportunity by encouraging acceleration and speeding-up the development of the national sharia economy and finance. We must prepare ourselves <\/span><\/span>to become<\/span><\/span> the<\/span><\/span> center for global sharia economy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We still have work to do. Indonesia’s sharia economic literacy index <\/span><\/span>remains<\/span><\/span> low at 16.2 percent. There is still room to improve public knowledge<\/span><\/span> and<\/span><\/span> there are still opportunities to be optimized. We must also continue to organize halal value chain in the real sector that supports MSMEs, including the development of the creative economy. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We are strengthening sharia finance industry by building one of the largest sharia banks in Indonesia. We have<\/span><\/span> set the<\/span><\/span> target <\/span><\/span>of <\/span><\/span>conduct<\/span><\/span>ing<\/span><\/span> i<\/span><\/span>n February, God willing, it can be completed. We are developing Micro <\/span><\/span>Waqf<\/span><\/span> Banks in various places and strengthening <\/span><\/span>zakat<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>infaq<\/span><\/span>, alms and <\/span><\/span>waqf<\/span><\/span> institutions to support economic empowerment of the people.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the<\/span><\/span>se<\/span><\/span> great efforts, I warmly welcome the <\/span><\/span>i<\/span><\/span>nauguration of the Sharia Econom<\/span><\/span>y<\/span><\/span> Brand. This is very important to increase public awareness, <\/span><\/span>to <\/span><\/span>support all Indonesian sharia economic activities, and <\/span><\/span>to <\/span><\/span>unite the movement to increase the added value of sharia economy in our country.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, by saying <\/span><\/span>bismillahirrahmanirrahim<\/i><\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> I <\/span><\/span>hereby <\/span><\/span>officially launch and inaugurate the National Movement for Cash <\/span><\/span>Waqf <\/span><\/span>and Sharia Econom<\/span><\/span>y<\/span><\/span> Brand this morning.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
