President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo has expressed his appreciation to\u00a0banks for increasing credit for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), according to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartanto.<\/p>\n

However, the President, Airlangga added,\u00a0also expressed hope that the credit can be increased to 30 percent nationally in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President certainly hopes\u00a0that banking sector could provide credit for MSMEs. Based on\u00a0the\u00a0current year on year data, the credit has recorded\u00a0about a 18-percent increase. Therefore, the President orders\u00a0the credit for MSMEs be increased to 30 percent in 2024,\u201d the Minister said\u00a0in his press statement after attending the meeting between the President and bank CEOs at the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (08\/09\/2021).<\/p>\n

Airlangga also pointed out\u00a0that the 30 percent target set by the President is an accumulation of credit provided by all banks nationally, not respectively, adding that the\u00a0President understands that each bank has its own specialized business.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this moment, Bank Rakyat Indonesia\u00a0(BRI), for example, has reached almost 70 percent of credit (for MSMEs). Meanwhile, some banks are specialized in providing credits to corporations. However, the President orders\u00a0that the total credit provided by all banks reach 30 percent. So, it does not mean that each bank should reach 30 percent because each bank has its own specialized business,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

During\u00a0the meeting, the bank CEOs also offered suggestions on reserves for non-performing loan (NPL). The CEOs said that it is important to harmonize accounting standards that are based on\u00a0the\u00a0Indonesian Financial Accounting Standards (PSAK) to deal with the NPL issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cUntil now, some banks nationwide have reserves around 150 percent on average. However, concerning the reserves, it is important to conduct harmonization between PSAK-based accounting standards and taxation because it has effect on tax counting. The President wants\u00a0to further discuss this matter.<\/p>\n

Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs added that another issue discussed in the meeting was that of credit policies implemented in state-owned banks. In this regard, the President asked related parties to follow up the issue, the Minister added.<\/p>\n

\u201cMSMEs implore banks to write off their NPL whenever disasters occur and affect their business.
