The dam is designed to provide irrigation for 4,500 hectares of agricultural land in Subang and Indramayu regencies.<\/p>\n<p>The water supply is expected to help farmers increase their cropping intensity when compared to the rainfed method, applicable once a year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The construction of the dam will be followed by the construction of the irrigation network, so that with the continuous supply of water from the dam, farmers who previously only planted once a year can plant two or three times,&#8221; said Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, as quoted from the Ministry&#8217;s official website, Tuesday (14\/09).<\/p>\n<p>The construction of the dam, which started in November 2018, also aims to meet the need for raw water supply and flood control, the Minister added.<\/p>\n<p>The Sadawarna Dam is also designed to supply water of 0.36 to one cubic meter per second for the Patimban and Pantura Port Areas of West Java province, especially Subang, Indramayu, and Sumedang regencies.<\/p>\n<p>The dam has the potential to power a hydroelectric power plant of two megawatts and to reduce flooding in the three regencies by 26.90 cubic meters per second.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry would also support the development of the Patimban Industrial Estate in Subang regency, he remarked.\u00a0<strong><b>(PR of Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing\/UN) <\/b><\/strong><strong><b>(FI\/MUR)<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In an attempt to ensure water and food security in the country, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing aims to complete construction of Sadawarna Dam in Subang regency, West Java province by August next year.
