As Indonesia\u2019s sharia economic sector has recorded a significant growth, the country eyes to become a center of global sharia economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Indonesia’s sharia economy was ranked 4th<\/sup> in 2020-2021, an improvement from the 9th<\/sup> place in 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“We hope that as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world at 87 percent or 207 million people, we can be the center of sharia economy in 2024. We will strive for that,” the President said in his remarks during the Opening of the 2021 Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) People’s Economic Congress, at the Sultan Hotel and Residence, Jakarta, Friday (12\/10).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The President also underscored that all sectors of sharia economy will continue to be developed, including halal industry, sharia finance, sharia social finance, and sharia entrepreneurship.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“We will push forward all sectors as the country with the world’s largest Muslim population. I keep reiterating this matter everywhere so that other countries know that Indonesia is a country with the largest Muslim population in the world,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

On that occasion, the Head of State also said that Indonesia has officially assumed the Presidency of the G20 since 1 December 2021 that consists of developed countries with the world’s top 20 gross domestic product (GDP).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Although currently Indonesia’s GDP is ranked 16th, he added, a number of world institutions such as McKinsey, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) predict that Indonesia will enter the world’s top 4 in 2040-2045.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“The obstacles are not small, the challenges will not be easy either. The conditions are the way for us to get there so that our GDP will reach US$23,000-27,000 income per capita\u00a0 in 2040-2045. It is a very large number, of course. But, it takes all of our hard work,” he remarked. <\/span><\/div>\n
