Indonesia has successfully entered the world’s top five countries with the highest number of vaccinations, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated.<\/p>\n

Recording vaccination coverage of 166.65 million people, Indonesia ranks the 4th after China, India, the United States, followed by Brazil in the fifth place.<\/p>\n

“Based on Our World in Data, as of 4 January 2022, Indonesia has administered 283,554,361 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. This achievement made Indonesia one of the five countries with the most vaccination coverage in the world,” the Minister said as quoted from the Ministry’s official website, Friday (01\/07)<\/p>\n

In addition, based on data from the Ministry, as of 6 January at 18.00 Western Indonesian Time, the national vaccination coverage has reached 284.15 million doses, including 168.33 million of the first dose or 80.83 percent and 115.82 million of the second dose or 55.61 percent.<\/p>\n

The Minister said that this achievement was inseparable from the supports and joint efforts of all elements of the nation including ministries\/institutions, TNI (the Indonesian National Defense Forces)\/Polri (the National Police), regional governments, social organizations, religious organizations, business players, and the community. For that reason, he expressed his highest appreciation for their supports and efforts.<\/p>\n

According to him, the Government will continue to boost national vaccination coverage to 208.2 million people, which is targeted to be completed in March or April. Despite additional targets of children aged 6-11 years and booster shots, the Minister expressed belief that the vaccine stock is sufficient.<\/p>\n

“Now we have a stock of around 140 million doses of vaccine, we set a target of 50 million a month. We have also prepared booster shots to anticipate Omicron. So, we believe that the stock is sufficient,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Minister also reminded that despite the number of people receiving the shots continuing to increase, the threat of COVID-19 transmission still exists. Therefore, vaccination efforts must be accelerated to achieve herd immunity.
