The Government continues to monitor the development of and anticipate the spike in COVID-19 cases following Eid al-Fitr holiday.<\/p>\n

This measure was taken given there is a tendency of a spike in cases between the 27th<\/sup> and the 34th<\/sup> day after holidays, which also occurred following national holidays in the previous years.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow we are on the seventh day after the holiday, so we proposed to the President that we wait about 20-25 days to observe whether there is a similar pattern of [case] increase, like in the previous Eid, Christmas, and New Year holidays,\u201d Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said in his press statement after attending a limited meeting led by President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo, Monday (05\/09).<\/p>\n

Budi also underscored that the Government remains vigilant and careful in tackling the pandemic and continues to monitor the development of new coronavirus variants.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are now in the monitoring phase with vigilance and carefulness. One thing that we monitor is a new variant that emerges globally, because we noticed that a spike in cases occurs when there is a new variant,\u201d he said, adding that the Government also continues to increase national vaccination rate.<\/p>\n

As of now, 406 million doses of vaccine have been administered to approximately 199.3 million population.<\/p>\n

\u201cBack then, when vaccination was first begun on January 13 last year, a well-known international magazine stated that Indonesia would need 10 years, but now within 16 months, we have managed to administer 406 million doses of vaccine to all people of Indonesia,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

Data from Ministry of Health, as of May 9 at 18.00 Western Indonesian Time, unveiled that the first dose vaccination coverage reached 95.72 percent of target with 199.34 million doses administered, the second dose vaccination coverage reached 79.54 percent with 165.66 doses administered, and booster vaccination coverage reached 19.70 percent with 41.03 million doses administered.
