After <\/span>attending<\/span> Pancasila <\/span>Day<\/span> Ceremony at Pancasila Field, Ende <\/span>r<\/span>egency, East Nusa Tenggara <\/span>p<\/span>rovince, President Joko<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Jokowi<\/span>\u201d<\/span> Widodo and <\/span>First Lady Ibu<\/i><\/span> Iriana Jokowi visited Bung Karno Contemplation Park.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

For the record<\/span>, Bung Karno’s period of exile in Ende lasted from January 14, 1934 to October 18, 1938. During his exile period,<\/span> Bung Karno<\/span> spent much of his time contemplating under <\/span>a<\/span> five-branched breadfruit tree in the park.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

According to Bung Karno’s <\/span>statement<\/span> in his autobiography, the <\/span>park was the place <\/span>where Bung Karno got his inspiration about <\/span>the state ideology of <\/span>Pancasila.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWhen Bung Karno returned to Ende after being exiled <\/span>in<\/span> Bengkulu, he came back to Ende as a President of the Republic of Indonesia and in front of thousands of Ende residents at that time he said that ‘In this city I found five <\/span>precious things<\/span>and <\/span>under<\/span> the<\/span> breadfruit tree <\/span>I contemplated<\/span> the noble values \u200b\u200bof Pancasila,” Noncent W. Noi<\/span>, who accompanied the President during the visit, explained<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Bung Karno also<\/span> once<\/span> said<\/span> that if the breadfruit tree die<\/span>d<\/span>, a new breadfruit tree<\/span> must be planted<\/span>. <\/span>T<\/span>he first breadfruit tree died in 1972<\/span>, but the new tree failed to grow.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Regent of Ende for the 1973-1983 period, Herman Joseph Gadi Djou, asked Bung Karno’s friends who were still alive at that time to replant the breadfruit tree. The replanting event took place on August 17, 1980 and the<\/span> new<\/span> breadfruit tree has grown.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Mr. President, this breadfruit tree now has five branches.
