President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo held a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Elmau, Germany, Monday (06\/27).<\/p>\n

During the meeting, President Jokowi discussed measures to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries as well as Indonesia’s G20 Presidency-related matters.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the largest economy in Europe and Southeast Asia, Indonesia and Germany have big opportunities for bilateral economic cooperation, be it in the new and renewable energy sector or in the high-tech industrial sector,” the President said.<\/p>\n

In the new and renewable energy sector, the President expressed hope that Germany can become a partner in processing the potential of 474 gigawatts of new and renewable energy sources in Indonesia.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, the President also praised Germany’s Green Infrastructure Initiative with a funding commitment of \u20ac2.5 billion over five years.<\/p>\n

In the high-tech industrial sector, President Jokowi conveyed that Indonesia has prepared an electric vehicle ecosystem from upstream to downstream, namely from mining and nickel smelting up to the production of batteries and electric cars.<\/p>\n

According to the President, Indonesia saw great potential for bilateral cooperation in the development of the semiconductor industry and making this industry part of the global chip supply chain.<\/p>\n

“Indonesia is also ready to follow up the cooperation in the development of the German Industrial Quarter, which can become a production base and global supply chain,” the President remarked.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, President Jokowi also expressed his appreciation for Germany’s support for Indonesia’s presidency at the G20.<\/p>\n

In the midst of a complicated and difficult world situation, the President expressed hope that Indonesia and Germany will continually maintain the G20 tightrope to remain a catalyst for economic recovery.
