President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Ibu<\/em> Iriana Jokowi Sunday (07\/10) joined Indonesian Moslems to perform this year\u2019s Eid al-Adha prayer at Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n

The annual prayer, which was also joined by several Ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet, ambassadors of friendly countries, and representatives of Islamic organizations, began at 7 a.m local time.<\/p>\n

Acting as imam and preacher at the prayer were Salim Ghazali and Chairperson of Indonesian Waqf Board Mohammad Nuh respectively.<\/p>\n

Mohammad Nuh delivered his sermon entitled \u201cThe Spirit of Mutual Cooperation Strengthens Unity in Diversity\u201d, which underscored spirit to strengthen unity in diversity and mutual cooperation from the values of hajj and the exemplary life of Prophet Ibrahim.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndeed, Allah subhanahu wa\u2019ta aala<\/em> has created us in diversity that we may know one another,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, President Jokowi told the congregation that he used Eid al-Adha as a moment to reflect tawhid<\/em> (the oneness of God) and to spread kindness and happiness to the people, adding that qurban<\/em> is more than sacrificing livestock.<\/p>\n

The President also called on Muslims to pray for the safety and health of all Indonesians performing hajj in the holy city of Mecca.<\/p>\n

For the record, President Jokowi donated a sacrificial cow to Istiqlal Mosque and other 33 cows to 33 provinces in Indonesia for this year\u2019s Eid al-Adha.<\/p>\n

Eid al-Adha is the second and bigger of the two main holidays in Islam (the other being Eid al-Fitr). It honors the willingness of <\/span>Prophet <\/span>Ibrahim<\/span> to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah’s command. Before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son, however, Allah provided him with a lamb<\/span>,<\/span> which he was supposed to kill in his son’s place because of his willingness to sacrifice his own son in the name of God.
