Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Retno Marsudi and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan Deng Dau Deng Malek on Wednesday (09\/20) signed the Joint Communiqu\u00e9 on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Indonesia and South Sudan.<\/p>\n

The signing ceremony was carried out on the sidelines of the 77th<\/sup> session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the United States of America.<\/p>\n

“The signing of the Communiqu\u00e9 marks a new chapter for Indonesia and South Sudan to build concrete cooperation, including economic cooperation, that benefits both countries,” Retno said.<\/p>\n

After the signing ceremony, delegations from the two countries immediately discussed concrete cooperation in infrastructure and oil sectors. In this regard, a cooperation contract has been signed between Indonesia\u2019s state-owned construction company PT Waskita Karya with Ministry of South Sudan in the infrastructure sector. Cooperation in the oil sector will also be explored immediately.<\/p>\n

For the record, Indonesia recognized the independence of South Sudan in 2011. The Indonesian Ambassador in Khartoum attended the declaration of independence of South Sudan in Juba on July 9, 2011.<\/p>\n
