Vice President Ma’ruf Amin on Tuesday (11\/08) held a bilateral meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Kamal Madbouly at the Egyptian PM’s Office Pavilion, Sharm El Sheikh International Convention Center (SHICC), Sharm El Sheikh.<\/p>\n

During the 60-minute meeting, the two leaders discussed various issues including climate change and cooperation in trade and education sectors.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, the Vice President expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s role in global efforts to address climate issues. According to the Vice President, as developing countries, Egypt and Indonesia need to continue to encourage the realization of international commitments in overcoming the global issues.<\/p>\n

“This includes funding, capacity building, and technology transfer from developed countries,” the Vice President said, adding that Egypt’s leadership at COP27 and Indonesia’s leadership at the G20 has become a momentum to deal with various crucial issues related to the economy and the environment.<\/p>\n

In the trade sector, \u00a0the cooperative relationship between the two countries continues to improve, reflected in the increase in trade value of more than 50 percent, reaching US$ 1.86 billion.<\/p>\n

To further improve the good relations, it is necessary to immediately follow up on the establishment of a Joint Trade Committee and the development of a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), the Vice President said.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, in the field of education, the Vice President expressed his gratitude for the provision of scholarships and facilities for Indonesian students who are currently studying in Egypt.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Prime Minister M. Kamal Madbouly said that Egypt will continue to improve bilateral relations with Indonesia, especially in the economic sector.<\/p>\n

“I would like to express our gratitude for the signing of two MoU [memorandum of understanding] during the visit of the Egyptian Foreign Minister to Indonesia last March, namely the MoU on the Establishment of a Joint Commission Session and the Environmental Cooperation,” the Prime Minister said.<\/p>\n

He further said that Egypt was also committed to strengthening cooperation in the field of education.<\/p>\n

“We have Al-Azhar University which currently accommodates a lot of Indonesian students, the number of which reaches 11,000 and this is such an honor for us,” the Prime Minister remarked.<\/p>\n
