President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo Monday (01\/16) hosted members of the National Commission on Human Rights for the 2022-2027 period at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.<\/p>\n

In his statement, Coordinating Minister for Political, Law, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said that the Government appointed the National Commission on Human Rights as an independent state institution undertaking a constitutional task that should be highly respected.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, in this relation, the Government will continue coordinating, cooperating, and looking forward for inputs, suggestions, and recommendations provided by the Human Rights National Commission conforming to their constitutional tasks,\u201d Mahfud stated.<\/p>\n

According to Mahfud, during the meeting President Jokowi and the Human Rights National Commission members discussed a number of issues, including human rights violations in the past.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the Government will continue to cooperate with the National Commission for judicial and non-judicial resolutions, he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Human Rights National Commission will continue coordinating with the Attorney General\u2019s Office until a more proper way is found to bring the case to the court since serious human rights violations will never be out of date,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, for non-judicial resolution, the Government, Mahfud added, has decided to carry out the resolution process according to the recommendation provided by Team for the Non-Judicial Resolution of\u00a0Past Serious Human Rights Violations<\/em> (PPHM)<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe by revising or correcting the data if it is possible, but we are certain that resolutions are needed. Non-judicial resolution is needed to settle the issue immediately. Meanwhile, let the judicial provision undergo a process according to law in a disclosed manner. We must continue our efforts,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Chairperson of the National Commission on Human Rights Atnike Nova Sigiro said that the Commission is committed to supporting further action of recovery measures for the victims of serious human rights violations, among others, by supporting the verification of the victims to get an official status with the issuance of a statement letter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe statement letter signifies the state\u2019s acknowledgement, an official acknowledgement for individuals who have experienced serious human rights violations, especially cases that have been investigated by the National Commission on Human Rights,\u201d Atnike remarked.
