President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo on Monday (03\/20) held a limited meeting with the security forces of Papua province at the Cendrawasih Room, Swiss-belhotel Jayapura, Jayapura city.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, the President stressed that all ranks of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (Polri) should participate in overseeing development in order to improve the welfare of the people in the Papua region.<\/p>\n

“The President reminded us to work in a more integrated manner between central and regional programs, so that the TNI and Polri can really oversee all policies and improve the welfare of the Papua region,” said Chief of National Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in his statement after the meeting.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the Chief of Polri explained that the way to improve welfare was through support for development in the Papua region.<\/p>\n

“In terms of development and expansion, everything is going well,” he explained.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Indonesian Military Commander Admiral Yudo Margono said that the TNI would collaborate with Polri to realize community welfare, among others, through law enforcement operations.<\/p>\n

“TNI troops are deployed in Papua in order to carry out law enforcement operations to assist the Police,” said the TNI Commander.<\/p>\n

According to the TNI Commander, the number of TNI troops in the Papua region is considered sufficient to carry out law enforcement operations.<\/p>\n

“There are no additional troops. The operation is being held both with the organic troops and those coming from outside Papua,” he said.<\/p>\n

In addition, the TNI Commander stated that TNI is encouraging the implementation of community security forces (PAM) operations both on land and sea borders in Papua region.
