President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo Thursday (05\/11) chaired the Retreat Session of the 42nd<\/sup> ASEAN Summit, held at the Meruorah Hotel in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara province. The meeting discussed two important issues, namely the review of the implementation of Myanmar\u2019s Five-Point Consensus and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).<\/p>\n

Regarding the situation in Myanmar, President Jokowi emphasized that as the Chairman of ASEAN, Indonesia continues to push for progress in the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus.<\/p>\n

“I must be honest that there has been no significant progress in the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus, so ASEAN unity is needed to formulate future steps,” said the President.<\/p>\n

In addition, the President also called for dialogue and cessation of violence in Myanmar. Together with relevant parties, Indonesia also continues to facilitate humanitarian assistance for the people of Myanmar.<\/p>\n

“Through engagements with various parties, we are pushing for the creation of inclusive dialogue, calling for a cessation of violence, and facilitating solutions through Joint Needs Assessment via the AHA Centre, as well as distributing humanitarian aid,” said the President.<\/p>\n

In front of ASEAN leaders, President Jokowi also expressed hope that the Myanmar issue would not hinder the acceleration of ASEAN community development. According to the President, this is eagerly awaited by the ASEAN community.<\/p>\n

“What I want to ensure is that the Myanmar issue must not hinder the acceleration of ASEAN community development because this community development is eagerly awaited by the ASEAN community,” he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, regarding the implementation of the AOIP, the President emphasized the need for concrete and inclusive cooperation to reduce tensions in the Indo-Pacific.<\/p>\n
