President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (06\/27) revealed that the launch of a program on the implementation of recommendations for the non-judicial settlement of past gross human rights violations held at Rumoh Geudong in Aceh province is the first step in resolving human rights violations on the Indonesian soil.<\/p>\n

“This is an initial step starting from Aceh province, from Pidie,” the President told journalists.<\/p>\n

According to the President, the program was launched in Aceh\u2019s Pidie regency as the place holds the story of three gross human rights violations.<\/p>\n

“There were three tragedies here: the Pidie Rumah Geudong, Simpang KKA, and Jambo Keupok,” he said, adding that the program will be implemented continuously.<\/p>\n

“After that, the program will continue. This is the initial step. Once again this is just the initial step,” he said.<\/p>\n

The President also pointed out that judicial measures can still be taken if significant evidence is found through established procedures. However, the Governemnt, he added, puts emphasis on the use of non-judicial measures to resolve human rights violations.<\/p>\n

“Judicial measures can only be taken upon strong evidence. The National Commission on Human Rights has to submit it to the Attorney General’s Office. Afterwards, we need a green light from the House of Representatives and only then can it be carried out,” the President said.<\/p>\n
