Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship has produced concrete results as part of the measures to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in the region, President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo has stated.<\/p>\n

“Thank God, the 43rd<\/sup> ASEAN Summit and other Summits have run smoothly. In the midst of challenging situation, Indonesia’s Chairmanship has produced concrete results as part of the measures to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in the region,” the President said in his statement after the closing ceremony of the 43rd<\/sup> ASEAN Summit at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta, Thursday (09\/07).<\/p>\n

The President went on to say that ASEAN has been on the right track to play its role, contribute to stability and peace, and make the region the epicentrum of growth.<\/p>\n

“After going through a long and difficult process, we finally succeeded in agreeing on the EAS Leaders’ Joint Statement regarding the epicentrum of growth. Once again, this is no easy process. The geopolitical situation is very delicate, and it reminds me of the G20 in Bali, but thank God a consensus has been reached,” the President stated.<\/p>\n

President Jokowi also said that Indonesia’s chairmanship has encouraged the downstreaming of industries that can provide added value as well as the welfare of the people in the region. In this regard, Indonesia has succeeded in pushing for an agreement for the development of an electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.<\/p>\n

“Thank God we have also reached an agreement in this sector for the development of an end-to-end EV ecosystem that is fully supported by the PRC [People’s Republic of China], Japan and [Republic of] Korea,” President said.<\/p>\n

The President further said that other agreements in the economic sectors were acceleration of the implementation of cross-border payment in the region, strengthening of the use of local currencies in cross-border transactions, and the implementation of the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Forum resulted in concrete cooperation worth US$38.2 billion.<\/p>\n

Regarding conflict resolution in Myanmar, President Jokowi emphasized that ASEAN remains committed to the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus.<\/p>\n

“ASEAN will continue Indonesia’s effort during its chairmanship, namely the ASEAN’s five-point consensus to assist Myanmar, one of which is through the establishment of a troika mechanism,” the President remarked. (TGH\/UN) (RI\/MUR)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
