President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo Monday (09\/25) invited all journalists in the country to uphold the code of ethics.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince this is precisely the added value of the media journalism compared to citizen journalism,\u201d President Jokowi said during the opening of the 25th<\/sup> Congress of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) at the State Palace, Jakarta.<\/p>\n

The President also advised the PWI members not to be influenced by something viral or hoaxes when producing news. \u201cI think we have to avoid things like that,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

President Jokowi also asked the PWI to continue to maintain the professionalism of its members so that they can help the public to get valid, authentic, quality, and balanced news.<\/p>\n

\u201cA fine news is not as long as it is viral or sensational one, since it can trigger the spread of hoaxes which still exist today. I received a report from Minister of Communications and Informatics that there are approximately 11 thousand of hoaxes still circulated in the digital world,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the President also expressed appreciation to the PWI members who have been critical and careful in providing input and criticism to the Government.<\/p>\n
