\u201cPrepare for good management and ensure that the fishers can make the best use of this very good location so we won’t fail again,” the President said in his remarks during the inauguration of the Modern Fishers’ Village in Samber and Binyeri villages, Biak Numfor regency, Papua province, Thursday (11\/23).<\/p>\n
The President added that there were several similar projects with complete and good supporting facilities that could not operate sustainably due to poor governance.<\/p>\n
“A great deal of cold storage facilities in the past must have been forced to stop running as they could not pay for electricity,” the President said.<\/p>\n
To that end, President Jokowi stressed that the facilities in the Modern Fishers’ Village in Samber and Binyeri villages should be well-managed and integrated.<\/p>\n
“The management must be thorough, integrated, sustainable, and not half-hearted. It is not over with the [completion of] facilities, but once again, assistance, governance, the management assistance is very much needed,” he said.<\/p>\n
President Jokowi added that the Modern Fishers’ Village was built in an integrated manner and has complete facilities, such as cold storage, ice factory, and workshop for fishers. The President also called on everyone to properly maintain the facilities.<\/p>\n
“It is easier to build, but we usually fail in the maintenance,” he said, adding that the village’s fishers’ products needed to be encouraged to enter downstream.<\/p>\n
