In his remarks during the inauguration of Tingkir Type A Terminal, Paya Ilang Terminal, and Anak Air Terminal, at Tingkir Terminal in Salatiga City, Central Java province Wednesday (12\/13), President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo emphasized the importance of developing public transportation facilities and infrastructure to boost inter-regional connectivity.<\/p>\n
“Developing transportation facilities and infrastructure is vital to boost inter-city and inter-regional connectivity, support community mobility, and increase the comfort of land transportation users,” the President said.<\/p>\n
President Jokowi also expressed belief that public transportation facilities and infrastructure would be of great benefit when there is a surge in passengers, for example, during the periods of holidays and new year celebration.<\/p>\n
“When there aren’t many passengers, the impact won’t be evident, but once there is a surge in passengers, the impact will be palpable like during the holidays or before the year-end holidays like now,” he added.<\/p>\n
The Head of State also explained that the Tingkir Type A Terminal in Salatiga City cost Rp34.8 billion to build, with a capacity of 235 bus services per day consisting of both inter-city inter-provincial (AKAP) buses and inter-city intra-provincial (AKDP) buses.<\/p>\n
“Then the Paya Ilang Terminal in Central Aceh Regency, Aceh Province, which was built with a budget of Rp22 billion, provides as many as 91 bus services per day consisting of AKAP and AKDP buses. And the Anak Air Terminal in Padang City, West Sumatra Province, which was built at a budget of Rp94.8 billion, provides 109 bus services per day,” he continued.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, according to the President, the three terminals are highly modern and equipped with a number of supporting facilities, making them function not limited only for boarding and disembarking passengers.<\/p>\n
“They have other functions such as MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) activity centers, shopping centers, social activity centers, and others that can integrate other modes of transportation,” he said.<\/p>\n
Echoing a similar statement, Director General of Land Transportation of Ministry of Transportation Hendro Sugiatno on a separate occasion said that the three terminals are also expected to boost economic growth for the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n
“We hope that those terminals can also boost the economy of the surrounding communities, especially in Salatiga, in marketing their MSME\u2019s products,” he said.<\/p>\n
Also joining the President on the occasion were Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Acting Governor of Central Java Nana Sudjana, Acting Mayor of Salatiga Yasip Khasani, Mayor of Padang Hendri Septa, and Acting Central Aceh Regent T. Mirzuan.
