President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana conducted an on-site inspection of the flood control project in Tambak Lorok, Semarang City, Central Java on Monday, June 17, 2024. This project, located in a fishing village, includes a 3.6-kilometer-long seawall designed to prevent flooding for at least the next 30 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a flood control and fishing village improvement project in Tambak Lorok. The seawall is 3.6-kilometers long, aimed at controlling flooding in Tambak Lorok and improving the fishing village. I believe this will prevent flooding for at least 30 years,\u201d President Jokowi said in his statement after the inspection.<\/p>\n

The project, with an investment of Rp386 billion, also includes the reorganization of the fishing village. It is currently 85-percent complete and is expected to be finished by August 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will be completed in August. If the reorganization of the fishing village goes well, it can be replicated in other areas. At least we will have an example,\u201d the President added.<\/p>\n

Separately, Harya Muldianto, Head of the Pemali Juana River Basin Center (BBWS), explained that the project involves building a seawall and two retention ponds covering a total area of about 20 hectares to reduce flood risk. The project also includes the construction of two pump houses.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are also two pump houses, each with a capacity of 3×500 liters per second. All of this is being built to anticipate the risk of flooding,\u201d Harya explained.<\/p>\n

Harya added that this project is strategically important because it is located in a fishing community frequently disrupted by flooding. This project is a significant step in securing and supporting the fishermen’s activities in Tambak Lorok.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen flooding occurs, the fishermen\u2019s activities are disrupted, so measures are being taken in the Tambak Lorok area,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n

The flood control and fishing village improvement project in Tambak Lorok is being carried out in two phases. The first phase, from 2016-2017, aimed to secure the boat parking area, while the second phase, from 2022-2024, focuses on securing the residential area, social facilities, and public amenities around Tambak Lorok.<\/p>\n
