President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo ordered the General Elections Commission (KPU) to hold the 2024 regional elections with a full sense of responsibility and integrity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the first simultaneous regional elections to be held in 508 regencies\/municipalities in 37 provinces with approximately 203 million voters,\u201d President Jokowi said in the 2024 Regional Elections National Coordination Meeting at the Jakarta Convention Center, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (08\/20).<\/p>\n

According to the President, stakeholders must improve the election\u2019s governance to prevent issues of previous elections from reoccurring.<\/p>\n

\u201cBe it on data voter registration, inaccurate or double-registered voter, as well as distribution, storage, or shortage of logistics. We must carry out everything in a discreet manner,\u201d President Jokowi said, adding that the KPU must also pay attention to the voting and vote-counting process.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, the Head of State also underscored the importance of neutral and independent election supervisors, transparency in the vote-counting process through reliable technology, increasing public participation to prevent fraud, and enforcing the law against parties that may commit money politics.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuch tasks certainly require hard work, cooperation, and good harmony between the KPU, the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and the Elections Organization Ethics Council (DKPP) as well as various elements of society. I believe that the KPU has more than enough experience and knowledge. However, we must remain vigilant, continue to improve the technical capacity of regional elections preparation, create breakthroughs so that the organization of regional elections is of higher quality, the elections process and results possess strong legitimacy among the public,\u201d President Jokowi remarked.
